Vegan vacation

July 20, 2009

We were pretty successful in scouting out some good food on our trip to Canada. When we couldn’t find a restaurant that worked, we stopped by the grocery store and usually bought vegetables, guacamole, hummus and chips. We ate a lot of hummus on the trip. Vegans have an easy time in Halifax. We had an amazing meal at a Middle Eastern place called Mezza. Another favorite that we hit on the way in and out of Canada was Calactus. The innkeepers we stayed with were especially considerate in preparing meals for us as well.
We didn’t stand a chance on one side of Cape Breton Island. A stop in at the “European Deli” yielded the response “we don’t have vegetables” when we asked for a vegetable sandwich. We finally did find a place that would do it for us though. Check out the $6 iceberg lettuce and cucumber sandwich.
Many of our wonderful meals can be seen here.
